Technological Innovation for a sustainable tropical agriculture

October 20 - 24th 2014

Rio de Janeiro, RJ - Brazil

Closed count

Rio de Janeiro will host, from the 20th until the 24th of October, the XVI World Fertilizers Congress, one of the main global forums on the subject. The event´s theme will be: "New technologies in fertilizers for a sustainable tropical agriculture". It´s the first time the Congress happens in Brazil.

The efficient application of fertilizers in the tropics it´s an important issue, discussed by scientists all over the world. "In tropical agriculture, the residual effect of fertilizers it´s also an important subject once in Brazil it is possible to cultivate twice or even three times the same area each year", says Vinicius Benites, a researcher at Embrapa Soils and the leader of the FertBrasil network. "The focus on the system of fertilization instead of it's culture is a new concept which is spreading rapidly in the tropical agriculture", says the scientist. So, new technologies in fertilizers must be developed and better understood in order to minimize the nutrients´ loss, increasing their efficiency.

The Congress will discuss the following subjects: slow release fertilizers, new routes for fertilizer production, direct use of agrominerals, organic based fertilizers, fertilizer application impacts on the tropics, the addition of micronutrients and secondary macronutrients in NPK fertilizers

The XVI World Fertilizers Congress will be organized by Embrapa, by its fertilizer´s research network, Rede Rede FertBrasil, in a partnership with the International Scientific Centre of Fertilizers (CIEC).
